Thomson receives 2nd Technical Emmy for T&M technology

14 January, 2008 Thomson is among the winners of the 59th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards for Science, Engineering & Technology for Television, organised during CES by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS).

Marking the 20th Emmy Award that Thomson has received, the 59th Technology Emmy Awards was presented at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Thomson's technology, including its Granite MPEG Monitoring equipment, has been awarded an Emmy Award in the category of ‘Monitoring for Compliance Standards for ATSC & DVB Transport Streams'. This year's Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards were among the most competitive ever, with a 75% increase in the number of entries.

This Emmy Award results from the on-going success of the Granite MPEG Monitoring range of equipment and continued R&D effort to support forthcoming standards and formats such as H.264 and transport over IP. This is the second Technology Emmy for Thomson's test and measurement products, the other being for its real-time MPEG Analyser, which was awarded in 1999.

The Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards honour achievements in two areas: Science, Engineering & Technology for Broadcast Television, which includes broadcast, cable, and satellite distribution, and secondly, Science, Engineering and Technology for Broadband and Personal Television, encompassing interactive television, gaming technology, as well as the Internet, cell phones, private networks, and personal media players.

"We're honoured that Thomson has once again been recognised for all the hard work and dedication that our engineering teams devote to developing technologies, products, and systems that our customers need to be successful," said Jacques Dunogué, senior executive vice president of the Systems Division within Thomson.
